[39] And many of the Samaritans of that city believed on Him for the saying of the woman, which testified, He told me all that ever I did.
[40] So when the Samaritans were come unto Him, they besought Him that He would tarry with them, and He abode there two days. [41] And many more believed because of his own word; [42] And said unto the woman, Now we believe, not because of thy saying: for we have heard Him ourselves, and know that this is indeed the Christ, the Saviour of the world. Because of what the woman said, a lot of the Samaritans believed. Then, when they heard Jesus speak, even more believed. They were so happy to see Him that they begged Him to stay with them, and He did for two days. In that short time, His word changed their lives. It is important for new converts to learn and study the Bible. The Samaritans began their spiritual journey by believing what the woman said, but they quickly learned to trust what the Savior said. Their salvation was not "secondhand." They knew they were saved because they had faith in what He said. Their joyful testimony was, "Now we believe!" You might have thought that these Samaritans were narrow-minded in their faith because they saw Jesus as the Savior of both Jews and Samaritans. But they said that He was "the Savior of the world" (John 4:42). They had only been Christians for a few days, but they already had a vision for missionary work! Their vision was actually broader than that of the apostles! It is intriguing to follow the steps that led our Lord to Samaria. He was in Jerusalem (John 2:23) and then went to Judea (John 3:22). He went from Judea to Samaria (John 4:4), and the Samaritans called Him "the Savior of the world." This is a perfect example of Acts 1:8, which says, "And ye shall be witnesses unto Me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth." The Lord has shown us the way. He will give us the harvest if we follow. This unnamed Samaritan woman was a fruitful believer: she bore fruit (“many believed”), more fruit (“many more believed”), and today continues to bear “much fruit” to the glory of God (see John 15:1–5). No one knows how many lost sinners have come to the Savior because of what this woman said in John 4. Comments are closed.
