PROMISE #240 - AUGUST 28

"Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: Thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over." ~Psalm 23:5

Today’s scripture reference is King David saying the Lord prepares a banquet for him in the presence of his enemies and God anoints his head with oil so that his cup overflows. What a picture of abundance! Meditate on that thought for a moment . . . David, who is surrounded by enemies, says blessings are overflowing.

I believe the anointing that God wants to pour out on our lives today will make us live a life of fullness, and others will benefit from the spillover of God’s anointing in our lives. In many Christian circles, the focus is on what we do for God, how hard we work, and how we show our love for Him.

All these things are beneficial in themselves, but we miss the point if we do them to somehow earn His love. In 1 John 4:19, the Apostle John says, "We love him, because He first loved us.” God initiates; we receive. I think the secret to living a life from a full cup is getting to the point where we learn to be good receivers of God.

The more love we receive from Him, the more love flows out of our lives. The more He anoints, the more it can be poured out to others. I pray that we learn to receive God's goodness and graciousness, enabling us to live from a continually overflowing cup.

Prayer:

Father, I thank You for Your overflowing generous heart that continually fills me to overflowing with every good and perfect gift that comes from Your hand. Help me to see this continuing infilling, even in those who might be against me, and let that same overflow splash on them so that they might also taste Your goodness.
