PROMISE #189 - JULY 8

. . .  how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him? ~Matthew 7:11

In this section of The Sermon On The Mount, Jesus exhorts His listeners not to be afraid to ask God for what they need. In the preceding verses Jesus tells people to keep asking, keep seeking, and keep knocking. He promises that the one who asks will be given, the one who seeks will find, and the one who knocks will have the door opened to them.

In this promise the Lord Jesus connects the heart of an earthly father with the heart of His heavenly Father. Earthly fathers, though sinful, still know how to give good gifts to their children. If so, how much more will the perfect Father (Matthew 5:48) in heaven give good gifts to those who ask?

Every day I am learning more and more that God wants to be a Father to me (2 Corinthians 6:18) in every part of my life. He wants my heart more than anything else, and He wants me to know that I am His child and that I have full, unlimited access to my heavenly Father day and night.

I know that it is most pleasing to Him when I seek His face and not just His hand. I know He loves it when I love Him for who He is, not what He provides me. But Jesus still tells us to ask our Father for what we need, for He knows what we need before we even ask!

May the courage come to you today to boldly enter the throne room of your heavenly Father and ask Him for what you need, for He is the giver of every good and perfect gift that flows from heaven (James 1:17).

Prayer:

Thank You, Father, for telling me I can come boldly to Your throne for help and mercy whenever I need it. Help me to have a childlike faith to believe You are truly a good Father who loves to give good gifts when I ask. Today I boldly come before You, asking in faith, knowing You hear my prayers and You love to answer the cries of my heart.
