PROMISE #163 - JUNE 12

"Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.” ~James 1:17

Just think about this promise for a moment. God’s speaking to us, saying that every good thing we receive in life is a gift from Him. The beautiful sunrise, the twinkle in a loved one’s eye, even that raise at work—all good gifts come from the one true Father.

The Bible says the sun shines on the just and the unjust. It means His gifts are for more than those who have received the gift of eternal life. Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above and comes down from the Father of lights.

James 1:17 says God does not change like shifting shadows. He is unchanging: yesterday, today, and forever. Thank God for such a loving, gracious Heavenly Father who is a giver at the very core of His heart!

Matthew 7:7-11 Jesus tells us to keep on asking, seeking, and knocking because God is a good Father who delights in giving good gifts to His children. It hurts the Father’s heart, like any healthy father and child relationship, if we only go to Him for what He gives. The gifts He provides are just the icing on the cake.

The greatest gift we can ever receive from God is the gift of God Himself! Thinking of this promise, and of the kindness, love, and generosity of our Heavenly Father, makes me humble. It makes me want to run to Him over and over again to thank Him for being so good to me!

Prayer:

Thank you, Father, for Your big heart, so full of love and blessings for me. Help me to understand that every good gift that I receive comes directly from Your hand. Please give me the insight to recognize each token of Your love as the fulfillment of Your promise to meet all my needs because You are my Father and I am your much-loved child.
