PROMISE #159 - JUNE 8

“By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.” ~Hebrews 10:10

I love the finality of the promise. Jesus’ once-for-all sacrifice on the cross makes us holy. Two thousand-plus years ago He paid the price for our past, present, and future sins. There’s nothing else that needs to be paid or can be paid. As Jesus said on the cross, "It is finished!"

Hallelujah for a promise like this! Our sanctification is safe forever in the finished work of Jesus Christ! Paul says in Romans 8:1, “There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus.”

Sometimes it’s easy for us to switch back and forth between accepting the forgiveness that God has already given us and feeling guilty and ashamed. The blood of Jesus settles this matter once and for all! All we have to do is receive this free gift and live knowing that there is nothing we could ever add to the amazing, extravagant gift that our God the Father has already given us.

It is a comfort to me and gives me peace and rest to think of the perpetuity of Jesus’ sacrifice and how my redemption and sanctification are secured forever. I know when God looks at me. He does not see all my sins and shortcomings; He sees me through the once-and-for-all finished sacrifice of the spotless Lamb of God. What wonderful news!

Prayer:

Thank you, Father, that when You see me, You see me as totally acceptable in Your sight, without spot or blemish. Not because of what I have done, but because of the once-and-for-all sacrifice that Jesus made for me. I pray that this eternal truth would today dissolve all the feelings of guilt and shame in my life.
