A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee. ~Psalm 91:7 Psalm 91 is a strong statement about the safety and shelter we can locate in God, knowing that He is always watching over us. The psalmist's promise today says that we can be safe even when things are very stressful.
Can you picture living in a place where you felt safe from harm, even though thousands of people were dying around you? I struggle to envision a scenario where I could feel safe amidst such immense suffering. But the psalmist says that people who live in the shadow of the Almighty can expect this kind of safety. This example might be extreme for daily life as we know it, but picture how it fits into your life. Do you work in a busy office where everyone is stressed out and anxious? Do you think you could be free from others' fear and anxiety because you made God your home? I pray that the answer for each of us today is YES! Even though the world around us may be falling apart, it shouldn't come too close to us because we know that the One who made the heavens and the earth loves and protects us. Prayer: Thank You, Father, for promising to keep me safe even when things are very stressful. Help me see with the eyes of faith today, even though everything around me may seem scary. I can be at peace knowing that the Prince of Peace has wrapped me in His love and protection. I pray in Jesus' name. Amen. |
