PROMISE #114 - APRIL 24

I waited patiently for the LORD; and He inclined unto me, and heard my cry. ~Psalm 40:1

This psalm was written by King David. He was a man who knew how important it was to be patient when things were really hard. When he was a teenager, the prophet Samuel made him king of Israel, but it took a long time for that to happen. There was a lot of pain and suffering between the promise and its fulfillment.

Things were looking favourable for David not long after the promise. He beat the huge Goliath, married the king's daughter, and became a national hero in Israel. Then, for reasons that David couldn't control, his father-in-law, King Saul, became jealous and decided to kill David.

David was on the run for a long time, hiding in caves and hanging out with some of the worst people of his time. But several things happened that made him the king of all Israel. After going through a lot of pain and disappointment, David finally saw God's promise come true: he would one day be king.

When David said, "I waited patiently for the Lord, and He heard my cry," he knew exactly what he meant. No matter what problems you are having today, God is always there for you. As we keep looking to Him to keep all of His promises to us, may today's promise, "Wait patiently for Me, and I will hear your cry," give us strength and hope.

Prayer:

Thank You, Father, for always keeping your promises. Today, I ask for the patience to trust You and wait for the right time for You to do everything You have planned for me. You hear my heart's cries even when I feel alone, and You are closer to me than I could ever have imagined. Today, I hope to find strength and encouragement not in my own faith but in Your faithfulness.
