PROMISE #144 - MAY 24

For His anger endureth but a moment; in His favour is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning. ~Psalm 30:5

I remember when my children were little and sometimes needed discipline. Even in the most serious situations, my discontent with them was but for a moment. Any loving mom or dad knows that little kids are going to make mistakes along the way, and there is plenty of grace for that.

I've always hoped that I could return back to playing with my kids as soon as possible after a moment of discipline. There is an old saying that parents have said through the generations just before dealing with issues of correction… "It's going to hurt me worse than it hurts you." As a kid I didn't want to believe that, but after being a parent, I can relate to this statement.

If we, mere humans, feel this way about our children, how much more does our Heavenly Father feel this way toward us! This truth is why today’s promise says that God’s displeasure is for a moment, but His favor is ours for life!

May the love of God tear down all the wrong ideas we have about the character and nature of our Heavenly Father. He loves to love us around every corner! He is the essence of love itself, so He cannot help but love! May you experience His favor shining on you today and throughout your life!

Prayer:

Father, I thank You that your favor rests upon me all the days of my life. Even when I am being corrected, your fathering heart is fixed in delight over me, because You know the end from the beginning and You will complete the good work You have started in my life in Christ. So help me to believe that in times of discipline, You are loving me with the tender heart of a Father who only wants the best for my life.
