We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord. ~2 Corinthians 5:8 I am so glad that Paul the Apostle made this declaration, revealing a special promise from God: to be absent from our body is to be present with the Lord! He promises us that He will never leave us nor forsake us in this world, and when it is time for us to leave this world, we will be with Him forever!
Hebrews 12:1 tells us that we are surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses who have gone before us and are cheering us on in our race. One day we will join Jesus in eternal glory, and we will echo the same cheers that the great cloud of witnesses raise today. Hallelujah, the sting of death is defeated! Nothing can ever separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus. We will be home with our great and all-powerful God when we leave our bodies. As I think of my loved ones who have already gone home to be with the Lord, this promise gives me great comfort. Today I pray that all who read this promise will be comforted to know that everyone who puts his or her faith in the Lord Jesus Christ is promised eternal life. Prayer: Father, thank You for Your promise of eternal life that is fulfilled in the Author of life, Your beloved Son Jesus Christ. I am so comforted in knowing that when it is time for me to move to my eternal home, I will be forever in Your loving presence. Amen, I pray in Jesus' name. |
