“Know therefore that the LORD thy God, He is [the only] God, the faithful God, which keepeth covenant [His promises] and mercy [is merciful] with them that love Him and keep His commandments to a thousand generations.” (Deuteronomy 7:9)
Have you ever had someone make a promise to you only to later breach that promise and go back on their word? Being on the receiving end of a broken promise is a terrible feeling. Trust has been lost. Faith is worn out. The disappointment grows. It's a situation we wouldn't want our worst enemy to go through.
But did you know that if you have given your life over to Jesus and are His disciple, you have someone on your side who will never betray His promises? That's right. You can always rely on the Lord. He has never broken a promise. He is consistently dependable.
You don't need to be concerned that God is unwilling or won't be able to fulfill any promises. God does not alter His opinions. He speaks honestly and acts on what he says. Every time He promises to do something, He follows through on His word.
You will occasionally find yourself in the middle of a pitch-black, stormy night. You will be drowning in a sea of difficulties. There won't be any way for you to get over the waves because they will be so massive. These details come to mind at that very instant. God has already vowed to carry out His plan for you, accomplish His purpose for you, and make everything work out for your good.
These and many other promises can be found all over the pages of Scripture. I would advise you to deliberately look for God's promises in His Word when you spend time with the Lord this week. You should record them in your journal. If you'd like, you may even Google a list of God's promises and the Scriptures that support them. Regardless of how you come across them, I pray that you would study, memorize, and reflect on them while keeping in mind that God will never breach any of those promises because He can always be relied upon.
Prayer: Dear Lord, I genuinely thank You for Your faithfulness. I acknowledge that You are one hundred percent reliable. Thank You for always being true to Your word. I ask that you draw my attention to the promises found in the Bible that You want me to think about so that I can find comfort, hope, and peace in the knowledge that You will always honor your promises to me. In Jesus' name, Amen.
