“Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God's elect? It is God that justifieth.” (Romans 8:33)
Even those with clear consciences might experience guilt. All of us sin and do wrong. We keep getting hauled back into God's courtroom to answer and face charges. Next, we read in Romans 8:33, “Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God’s elect? It is God that justifieth.”
The four English words, “will bring an accusation” is one word in the Greek language (enkalesei). It is a legal phrase that literally translates as “to call in.” It is a formal summons to appear in court to answer to the charges made against you. Who are the key witnesses that are stacked against us? Sometimes our sins accuse us. We may occasionally face accusations from other people, but Satan is the worst accuser of all. His full-time job is to prosecute each and every one of us when we do something wrong. The passage “. . . for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night.” (Revelation 12:10) characterizes him.
No one commits sins behind closed doors. Even while we may believe that our transgressions go unnoticed, someone is always watching and observing. God is a constant observer. The Accuser brings us into God’s courtroom and brings charges against us whenever one of God’s children transgress. It’s not hearsay or circumstantial evidence. It’s true that we sin and fail. Then, thankfully, we are told, “God is the one who justifies.”
By God’s grace, we have been declared “not guilty.” In the event that you have trusted in Jesus Christ, the accuser has nothing further to prove. If you identify as a follower of Jesus, you are pardoned. Thanks to the Supreme Judge of the Supreme Court of the Universe, we are forever and fully justified.
Prayer: Father, I am grateful that You, by Your grace, have found me not guilty. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
