A New Love

“His mother saith unto the servants, Whatsoever He saith unto you, do it.” (John 2:5)

At a wedding in Canaan, Mary, the mother of Jesus, glanced at some servants and said, simply, ‘Do whatever He tells you.’ (see John 2:5). This was a simple, straightforward statement. Ask no questions, have no hesitations—just follow Jesus’ instructions.

You can rest assured that God will put your obedience and patience to the test when you find yourself in a circumstance where you are unsure of what to do. It is wise to remain silent until God gives you guidance when you are unsure of what to do. But eventually, you have to act upon what He reveals to you. God measures us based on our obedience, but He also tests us based on our faith.

The biggest challenge you will face is not finding out what to do, but doing what you know to do. Often, the  individuals seeking my guidance and counseling already possess the necessary knowledge. Their need for encouragement and motivation to push through is often the issue.

Because of this, finding yourself in a situation where you are unsure of what to do is not a bad or poor thing, but rather a terrific one. God can use it to guide you, and you can use it to show God your willingness to follow His instructions.

In John 14:15, Christ says, “If you love Me, keep My commands.” We have a unique opportunity to show God how much we love Him by being obedient amid trying circumstances. He probably won’t provide us with simple, quick fixes. We demonstrate to others that God is trustworthy when we obey Him even though we may not understand why. Furthermore, we give thanks to God for He admires our obedience.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, please help me to obey You despite my resistance. I’m grateful that You have called me to take on challenging tasks to become more like Jesus. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
