Today's Bible Reading

December 17

Today's Bible Reading Plan selections can be found below. If you don't have a Bible with you, just click the references to read each passage online:

Old Testament
Nahum 1-3  —  8.0 minutes
Job 36:16-33  —  3.0 minutes

New Testament
John 19:17-27  —  3.0 minutes
Revelation 14  —  7.0 minutes

Total Average Read Time — 21.0 minutes
This reading plan will make it easy and fun for you to read through the entire Bible this year. Here are a few things to keep in mind:
  • Although the plan begins with January, you can begin at any time during the year.
  • Each month’s readings are based on 25 days worth of readings, which means you get several free days if you ever fall behind. This makes reaching your goal a lot more possible!
  • Each day’s readings will include selections from both the Old and New Testament, reinforcing the incredible unity of the Scriptures. Perhaps most important, you will focus daily on the life of Jesus by reading a portion of one of the Gospels every single day of the year.
May God bless you as you open His precious Word each day, and remember to pray for His guidance in your study. It is our desire that you will become increasingly changed into His likeness by beholding the Lord through His Word.

Today's Meditation - Psalms

Psalm 143:1-6
David was being besieged by his enemies, and was in dire straits. He knew what to do and that is to call upon the Lord. He trusted in the faithfulness of God to answer him. His discouragement was real and he spoke of being “overwhelmed.” Times like that can come into the lives of God’s children. David knew how much he needed the Lord, and His longing for the Lord was expressed clearly in verse 6 when he said, “I stretch forth my hands unto Thee: my soul thirsteth after Thee, as a thirsty land.” Today might be a good day to evaluate your own desire for the Lord.
  1. The supplications he brought to the Lord – verse 1
  2. The standard for being justified in God’s sight – verse 2
  3. The smiting of the enemy – verse 3
  4. The spirit that was overwhelmed – verse 4
  5. The study of God’s works – verse 5
  6. The stretching forth of his hands to the Lord – verse 6
David said that he meditated on the works of the Lord. These “meditations” on the Psalms are intended to do just that. Take time to remember Who God is and all that He has done and has promised to do in the future!
Verse for Meditation: Verse 1 – “Hear my prayer, O LORD, give ear to my supplications: in Thy faithfulness answer me, and in Thy righteousness.”

Today's Prayer

“Lord, I do remember much of what You have done, and I praise Your mighty power, and trust You to work in my life through Your faithfulness and righteousness.”
