Today's Bible Reading

December 8

Today's Bible Reading Plan selections can be found below. If you don't have a Bible with you, just click the references to read each passage online:

Old Testament
Amos 1-2  —  7.5 minutes
Job 31:1-23  —  4.0 minutes

New Testament
John 16:12-24  —  4.0 minutes
Revelation 5  —  4.5 minutes

Total Average Read Time — 20.0 minutes
This reading plan will make it easy and fun for you to read through the entire Bible this year. Here are a few things to keep in mind:
  • Although the plan begins with January, you can begin at any time during the year.
  • Each month’s readings are based on 25 days worth of readings, which means you get several free days if you ever fall behind. This makes reaching your goal a lot more possible!
  • Each day’s readings will include selections from both the Old and New Testament, reinforcing the incredible unity of the Scriptures. Perhaps most important, you will focus daily on the life of Jesus by reading a portion of one of the Gospels every single day of the year.
May God bless you as you open His precious Word each day, and remember to pray for His guidance in your study. It is our desire that you will become increasingly changed into His likeness by beholding the Lord through His Word.

Today's Meditation - Psalms

Psalm 139:1-6
The emphasis of this psalm of David on the attributes of God is most encouraging to the heart of every believer. It is also a warning to the non-believer. These opening verses focus on the omniscience of God, the fact that He knows everything we think, say, and do, even before it ever occurs. Such knowledge, the psalmist says, is “too wonderful for me.” The Hebrew word for “wonderful” refers to that which is beyond our ability to understand. We might say that it is incomprehensible. God knows all things, and He also knows what is best for every one of us.
  1. The searching of God’s knowledge – verse 1
  2. The situations of my life that He knows – verse 2
  3. The secrets of my life He knows – verse 3
  4. The speeches I make He knows – verse 4
  5. The stability of my life is controlled by Him – verse 5
  6. The superiority of His knowledge – verse 6
Proverbs 3:5-6 tells us to trust the Lord and not even “lean” to our own understanding. We are to “acknowledge” God in everything we do, and be confident that He will “direct our paths.” Rest in His knowledge, and know that He is never surprised.
Verse for Meditation: Verse 6 – “Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high, I cannot attain unto it.”

Today's Prayer

“I rest in Your knowledge of all things, and I know that You have already laid out a plan for my life, and nothing I say or do upsets You in the least, for You know everything.”
