Today's Bible Reading

December 5

Today's Bible Reading Plan selections can be found below. If you don't have a Bible with you, just click the references to read each passage online:

Old Testament
Hosea 13-14  —  7.0 minutes
Job 28  —  5.0 minutes

New Testament
John 15:9-17  —  2.0 minutes
Revelation 3:1-13  —  4.5 minutes

Total Average Read Time — 18.5 minutes
This reading plan will make it easy and fun for you to read through the entire Bible this year. Here are a few things to keep in mind:
  • Although the plan begins with January, you can begin at any time during the year.
  • Each month’s readings are based on 25 days worth of readings, which means you get several free days if you ever fall behind. This makes reaching your goal a lot more possible!
  • Each day’s readings will include selections from both the Old and New Testament, reinforcing the incredible unity of the Scriptures. Perhaps most important, you will focus daily on the life of Jesus by reading a portion of one of the Gospels every single day of the year.
May God bless you as you open His precious Word each day, and remember to pray for His guidance in your study. It is our desire that you will become increasingly changed into His likeness by beholding the Lord through His Word.

Today's Meditation - Psalms

Psalm 136:10-26
This psalm which (as we pointed out yesterday) ends each verse with the words “for His mercy endureth for ever,” focuses on the history of Israel with special emphasis on how God was involved in everything that took place. It is clear that Israel survived the wilderness and conquered enemy kings by the power and mercy of the Lord, and He provided for them all along the way. The summary to all who read this psalm is found in verse 26: “O give thanks unto the God of heaven: for His mercy endureth for ever.” Every detail of their lives, no matter how difficult they seemed at the time, was being controlled and worked by our God. Verses 10, 13, 16, and 17 begin with the words “To Him.” He was going before them and proving over and over again His mighty power.
  1. The rescue from Egypt – verses 10-12
  2. The results of destroying the Egyptian army - verses 13-15
  3. The resources that led His people in the wilderness – verse 16
  4. The revenge of God upon enemy kings – verses 17-20
  5. The receiving of land for an heritage – verses 21-22
  6. The remembrance of His people – verse 23
  7. The redemption of His people, supplying their needs – verses 24-25
  8. The response of thanksgiving to God – verse 26
God led them all the way and provided all their needs. He gave them victory over their enemies and land for their possession. Our response is to give thanks – for all that God has done and will do!
Verse for Meditation: Verse 26 – “O give thanks unto the God of heaven: for His mercy endureth for ever.”

Today's Prayer
