Today's Meditation - Psalms
Psalm 122:5-9
Jerusalem is the city of God. It was first called “Salem” in Genesis 14:18 and its first king was named “Melchizedek” whose name means “king of righteousness.” No doubt it was (cf. Hebrews 7:1-10) an appearance of our Messiah to our father Abraham. Psalm 76:2 also calls it “Salem.” We are reminded in this latter half of the chapter that it is also the place for the “thrones of the house of David.” The Messiah will one day sit on the throne of His father, David, and rule the entire world. The emphasis of this section is on the meaning of the city’s name – the city of “peace.”
Verse for Meditation: Verse 9 – “Because of the house of the LORD our God I will seek thy good.”
