Today's Bible Reading

October 17
Today's Bible Reading Plan selections can be found below. If you don't have a Bible with you, just click the references to read each passage online:

Old Testament
Jeremiah 47-48  —  7.5 minutes
Song of Solomon 2  —  4.0 minutes

New Testament
John 5:31-47  —  3.5 minutes
1 Peter 2:9-17  —  2.5 minutes

Total Average Read Time — 17.5 minutes
This reading plan will make it easy and fun for you to read through the entire Bible this year. Here are a few things to keep in mind:
  • Although the plan begins with January, you can begin at any time during the year.
  • Each month’s readings are based on 25 days worth of readings, which means you get several free days if you ever fall behind. This makes reaching your goal a lot more possible!
  • Each day’s readings will include selections from both the Old and New Testament, reinforcing the incredible unity of the Scriptures. Perhaps most important, you will focus daily on the life of Jesus by reading a portion of one of the Gospels every single day of the year.
May God bless you as you open His precious Word each day, and remember to pray for His guidance in your study. It is our desire that you will become increasingly changed into His likeness by beholding the Lord through His Word.

Today's Meditation - Psalms

Psalm 117:1-2
Two wonderful verses centering in the praise of the Lord (“Hallelujah” in every language!). It is the plan of our sovereign Creator to design all nations ultimately to praise Him. Even when it might be a Pharaoh who opposes the people of God, God raises Him up to show His power throughout the earth. Psalm 76:10 says “Surely the wrath of man shall praise Thee.” Everything and everyone has been created to give praise to our wonderful Lord. In this brief section, two things are mentioned that should cause us to praise our Lord: “His merciful kindness” and “the truth of the LORD.” God is so gracious, compassionate, and kind toward us. We deserve judgment and hell, but His grace and forgiveness has given us hope and eternal life. And, we can always count on Him to keep His Word – He always tells the truth, and His truth endures forever!
  1. The places from which He desires praise – verse 1a
  2. The people from whom He desires praise – verse 1b
  3. The power of His merciful kindness – verse 2a
  4. The promises upon which we can rely – verse 2b
When you awake in the morning – praise Him! As you go through your responsibilities and errands each day – praise Him! As you sit at meals – praise Him! As you go home at night – praise Him! As you go to sleep – praise Him!
Verse for Meditation: Verse 1 – “O praise the LORD, all ye nations; praise Him, all ye people.”

Today's Prayer

“I praise You, Lord, for Your kindness and mercy to me, and for the fact that I can count on Your promises being true and one day will be fulfilled.”
