Today's Bible Reading

October 8
Today's Bible Reading Plan selections can be found below. If you don't have a Bible with you, just click the references to read each passage online:

Old Testament
Jeremiah 16-18  —  8.0 minutes
Ecclesiastes 6  —  3.5 minutes

New Testament
John 3:1-15  —  3.5 minutes
James 4:1-10  —  2.5 minutes

Total Average Read Time — 17.5 minutes
This reading plan will make it easy and fun for you to read through the entire Bible this year. Here are a few things to keep in mind:
  • Although the plan begins with January, you can begin at any time during the year.
  • Each month’s readings are based on 25 days worth of readings, which means you get several free days if you ever fall behind. This makes reaching your goal a lot more possible!
  • Each day’s readings will include selections from both the Old and New Testament, reinforcing the incredible unity of the Scriptures. Perhaps most important, you will focus daily on the life of Jesus by reading a portion of one of the Gospels every single day of the year.
May God bless you as you open His precious Word each day, and remember to pray for His guidance in your study. It is our desire that you will become increasingly changed into His likeness by beholding the Lord through His Word.

Today's Meditation - Psalms

Psalm 113:1-4
The need of “praise” in the believer’s life is constant. It is not reserved for church services alone; the Lord wants us to praise Him all day long, from the time we get up in the morning until the time we go to sleep – praise the Lord! We need it more than we realize. Life’s circumstances can cause the best of us to lose focus and take our eyes off of the Lord, and become depressed and discouraged because of what we are facing. Praising the Lord lifts our hearts above our circumstances and causes us to rest in the One Who has everything under His control, and is working all things for our good and His glory. Stop right now and praise Him for Who he is and for what He has done.
  1. The praise of the Name of the Lord that He desires – verse 1
  2. The proclaiming of His Name forever – verse 2
  3. The pattern of praise that we should follow – verse 3
  4. The position of the Lord that we should praise – verse 4
Yes, He is “high above all nations.” It is good to keep that in mind when we see what is going on in the world. “His glory” is “above the heavens.” Our understanding of the greatness of our God is so limited and clouded by our own perspective. Lift up your eyes and see the Lord in all His glory – His greatness is unsearchable and His ways past finding out – trust Him, for He does everything right and for our good!
Verse for Meditation: Verse 3 – “From the rising of the sun unto the going down of the same the LORD’s Name is to be praised.”
