He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: He leadeth me beside the still waters. ~Psalm 23:2 One of my favorite Psalms is Psalm 23. In this chapter, King David uses his experiences as a shepherd boy to show how God cares for us like a shepherd. In John 10:11, Jesus connects to Psalm 23 by saying that He is the Good Shepherd who gives His life for His sheep . . . "I am the good shepherd".
A shepherd does everything for the good of the sheep. In today's promise, we read that David says the Lord makes him lie down in green pastures and leads him to still waters. We all need to discover peace in green pastures in the middle of our busy lives. David says that the Lord makes him lie down in green pastures, which is intriguing. The Lord might make us rest even when we don't need to. May the Good Shepherd of the sheep give you the rest you need today in His rich green pastures, and may He lead you to still waters to find refreshment so that you can continue your journey under His watchful care. Prayer: Thank You, God, for wanting me to find peace for my soul. Today, I ask for Your wisdom to guide me to calm waters and make me lie down in green fields. Many things in my life try to keep me busy and distracted. Please help me enter the rest that Jesus invites me to so I can attain the peace and rest that I was made to have. I pray in Jesus' name. Amen.
