Bible Promises

"I think that when people give themselves time to be quiet, God will really speak wonderful things to their hearts. These promises are for people who will take the time to listen. They won't try to outdo the noise of the world or impress with special effects. They are for the hurting, the weak, and the searching." --Mark Wash

PROMISE #46 - FEBRUARY 15

The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. ~Psalm 23:1

Picture
One of the most popular Psalms is Psalm 23. People have said it during happy times, sad times, and everything in between. King David wrote this psalm, and he knew what it was like to be a shepherd. David knew what he meant when he said that the LORD was his shepherd because he had learned how to care for the flock as a boy.

David said, "I shall not want" which means that he would not need anything because the Lord was his shepherd. Shepherds take care of their sheep in every way. They take them to green pastures, keep them safe, and give them everything they need to live a good life.

Jesus talks about how a shepherd protects his sheep in John 10:12–16. He says that the shepherd would gladly give up his life to keep them safe. Jesus is our Great Shepherd, and because He loves us, we will have everything we need. I pray that the truth of this promise will touch our hearts deeply today.

The writer of Hebrews says, "Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant, Make you perfect in every good work to do His will, working in you that which is wellpleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ; to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen." (Hebrews 13:20-21)

Prayer:

Thank you, Jesus, for being my Great Shepherd. You are with me every step of the way, no matter what is going on in my life. You lead me to green pastures and calm waters. In my eternal union with you, I have everything I need. Help me to trust in Your promise to keep me safe and fed today. In Jesus' name, Amen.

    About

Although every promise in the Bible is important, not all apply to the child of God. If you have made Jesus Christ the Lord of your life, all of the promises are precious and important! If you haven't yet felt God's love through His Son, Jesus Christ, we hope that by reading these promises, you will gain a better idea of how great God is and how great His plans and purposes are for your life.

2 Corinthians 1:20 reminds the child of God that no matter how many promises God has made, they are all "Yes" in Christ. And so we say "Amen" through Him to bring glory to God. The apostle Paul writes, "For all the promises of God in Him are yea, and in Him Amen, unto the glory of God by us."

We hope that each daily promise will teach you more about the God who keeps all promises.
